As Mental Health Month and its theme “Be Younique” draws to a close, Naomi Madigan interviews Dr Marc de Rosnay about the stigma still surrounding mental illness.

Key to the discussion with Dr de Rosnay is whether or not mental illness can ever be seen in a positive light. As the theme of Mental Health Month this year was to “Be Younique”, Dr de Rosnay’s views echo the sentiments of being unique and seeing mental illness for what it truly is.

Anyone facing a mental illness shouldn’t need to battle it alone and feel that they have anything of which to be ashamed. Mental illness is very common, affecting one in five Australian adults.

People will understand what you’re battling if you allow them to especially the people who care about you.

So, don’t battle mental illness alone, don’t be ashamed – Be Younique!

 BE YOUNIQUE!
