365 docobites: docobite of the week – Aix en Provence, Berthold

The 365 docobites crew are still hanging in Aix en Provence, this time chatting to Dutch docobitee Berthold, who understands all too well the importance of friendship amongst strangers…

Aix en Provence (part 2)

He offered me his help and somewhere to stay

This week’s featured docobite comes once again from Aix en Provence in the shape of Berthold, a young man, only 21, who talks about loss, values and doing nice things.
He tells a powerful story about a journey he took across The Netherlands where a stranger offered his help when Berthold got stuck with nowhere to go.
Berthold told us, “Right now I think different values are being lost, like doing something nice for the people surrounding you.”
It is an interesting thing to consider – the values that have become more or less important over time, even during your own life span; reflecting on how your own values have shifted as you’ve evolved. Reflection can be a powerful tool as it encourages you to consider if both the personal and grander societal evolution have been for the good – with love, togetherness and compassion – or has the latter taken on more of a negative and hurtful value system of greed, ignorance and hate?
Berthold believes, “We should open our feelings more to this sort of thing…” – to open our minds not only to what is important to us today, but to what should be.

The Big Smoke is proud to promote the adventures

of the 365 docobites crew

and will feature a “Stranger of the week” every Friday,

so check back each week to see

who you get to meet next!

365 docobites

The 365 docobites team, Epiphany and Carl, are travelling across five continents for an entire year to introduce the 365 docobites community to a “stranger a day” via a vlog of short and shorter documentaries.

Each docobite will be as unique as the stranger it features, allowing their identity to drive the content. Whether we’re with a stranger for a moment or a day, 365 docobites will capture the essence of that time in their life; humorous or horrific, dramatic or delightful.

What do these people look like?

What do they think about?

What makes them laugh, cry, scream and shout?

What is life like for the strangers of the world?
