TBS loves a good lip sync performance, mostly because it’s the only kind of performance that we’re actually good at…so here are our Top 5 favourite lip syncs of all time…
Karaoke and a 3am kebab are the things your 20s are made of…and now with the addition of segments like Jimmy Fallon’s Lip Sync battles, your singing-into-a-hairbrush past doesn’t seem so bad. An entire show has been made out of this concept alone…of course, we’re not sure how long this gimmick will last, but it’s something that is sure to drive an audience for a time. The rise in popularity is likely all about the fact that they are doing exactly what you could do — no better and probably no worse — just with a bigger audience.
So for your enjoyment, here are our top 5 favourite lip sync performances:
Lip Sync No 5. Gwen Stefani, Jimmy Fallon and Blake Shelton
Legend has it that Mr Shelton was a bit drunk when this lip sync battle occurred on the Jimmy Fallon show. We’re not sure if this is true or not and to be honest, we don’t care — but this video was removed from Jimmy Fallon’s Youtube account. Fortunately though, it’s not lost forever! Here is the video in its entirety with Blake performing Putting on the Ritz and an accompanying tap dance, plus some slapstick from Jimmy.
Lip Sync 4. Sean Hayes and husband
It’s not just Jimmy Fallon’s guests who are jumping on the bandwagon, with actor Sean Hayes recently publishing this video of himself and his husband lip-syncing to Iggy Azalea.
Lip Sync No 3: Stephen Merchant, Joseph Gordon Levitt and Jimmy Fallon
Stephen Merchant’s awkward, but perfect rendition of Boom! Shake The Room not only started a regular spot on Jimmy Fallon’s show, it started a movement.
Lip Sync No 2. Taylor Swift and Greg James
Taylor Swift lip-syncing to her own song while driving in a car with BBC’s Greg James. The best part of this video is it demonstrates how we would all lip-sync Blank Space when driving around — although we might tone it down a bit when we get to a red light….
Lip Sync No 1: Jinkx Monsoon vs Detox
Jinkx Monsoon, winner of Ru Paul’s Drag Race Season 5 lip-sync performance of Malabo No. 1 against Detox was perfection. Detox couldn’t even compare in this round and Ru Paul uttered those magic words “Shantay you stay…”
