The Big Smoke chats to @AnnePrettyness to steal some beauty hacks and get insight into standing out, using simple but outside-the-box makeup techniques.
Your Instagram pics are fabulous. If for whatever reason you could only save three, which three would you save?
And your favourite Instagram video clip is?
This, because when it went viral, that’s when people started to come to my social handles.
Can you please tell our readers a little bit about yourself and how your Instagram came to be?
I’d always been watching YouTube videos, especially before purchasing any makeup. I’d research, watch people’s reviews with their thoughts about a specific product, and I thought it was something I also wanted to do. I wanted to share, especially the products that I loved, just so I could help other girls.
One day my husband gifted me Prada Baroque sunglasses for my birthday. I loved them but they kept falling from my nose – until I discovered I could put small cardboard on the sides of the hinges to lock the angle to 90 degrees. I wanted to share this with everyone because someone might have also been having a hard time with huge sunglasses; that’s when I started with my YouTube channel.
People asked if I’d make an Instagram page as well, because it’s a platform where they can interact with me every day. I found that my followers became closer because we were able to connect easier on Instagram and because they’ve been seeing more of me on Instagram than on YouTube videos.
What do you think is the main driver to people coming to @AnnePrettyness daily and following you?
I guess it’s because my social media posts are about people learning, from a simple makeup tutorial to an out of the box makeup look, and also because I always share my honest opinions about products – especially the ones that are just launching, which is so important because people are always curious if they need to buy that newly-launched product!
What is the main story you like to tell through your images?
First and foremost, you can be different. You can think out of the box. You can create – you can bring your imagination to life. For instance, I would always imagine how a sunset goddess would look – that’s why I created this look. It is very seldom that I create a simple makeup tutorial, because I want to show my viewers that you can use shades/colours and it can really stand out. I would like to show especially those who don’t have confidence about wearing makeup, that it’s achievable. Anyone can do it! Even if you’re a mum and busy taking care of the children, I always tell them you still have to be beautiful for your partners.
And finally, what is the worst way for someone to try and get your attention on Instagram, and what is the best way?
When they start to attack me and my loved ones just for me to notice them 😒 Best way: comments! I always read each and everyone’s comments, that’s for sure 💕
