Proving that America is a fine place, a Montana man was arrested for assaulting a teenager for failing to remove his hat during the anthem. Ok.
Perhaps adding truth to the truism “patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel”, a man in Montana has been charged with assaulting a teenager he believed disrespected the flag.
In modern America, the cost of not taking your hat off for the anthem results in temporal skull fractures and a trip to the Emergency Room. Freedom isn’t free, y’know.
The Missoulian reports that Curt Brockway was arrested at the Mineral County Fair and Rodeo after he allegedly slammed the teenager to the ground. An eyewitness purportedly said that Brockway justified his actions, because of the perceived disrespect.
“He said (the boy) was disrespecting the national anthem so he had every right to do that,” Taylor Hennick told the news outlet.
He said (the boy) was disrespecting the national anthem so he had every right to do that.
Brockway was scheduled for release this morning, but the parents of the child noted that he bled for hours after the attack. Now, being a foreigner, I can say this, but the song itself promotes violence. At its crescendo, it notes gazing at the tattered rag atop a pole, flying in the face of “the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air”.
All I’m saying that burning it is probably fine, as it’s already been on fire once – the song says so. Plus, it’s just a flag. Assaulting a teenager over a perceived slight to an inanimate object is not an act of the free, or the brave.
