John Alexander, OAM MP
In 2010 John Alexander was elected as the Federal Member for Bennelong. This followed a successful career as a touring international Tennis Player, Television Commentator, Federation Cup Captain, Chair of Player Development for Tennis Australia and Managing Director of Next Generation Clubs Australia. John’s first appointed policy role was to Chair both the Liberal Party Sustainable Cities Policy Taskforce and the Vision 2020 Policy Group. After being re-elected in Bennelong in 2013 he was appointed Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Tax & Revenue. He also serves as Chair of the Coalition Policy Committees on Infrastructure & Regional Development, and Tourism. As a professional tennis player John was based in Atlanta, Georgia for 14 years and witnessed firsthand the development of this regional centre into a major international business hub through policies that supported regional connectivity and decentralisation. Since his election to Parliament John has drawn on his Atlanta experiences to become a strong voice for innovative policy responses to support decentralisation and regional development underpinned by high speed rail connectivity.
